Pyrgos is composed of two villages, Kato Pyrgos, which is larger and more popular and Pano Pyrgos. Both villages have 2000 residents. Pyrgos is the only village situated in the Morphou bay, which is not under the Turkish occupation after the invasion in Cyprus.
This place is rich in history and natural beauties. It combines both the mountains relaxation and the incredible view of the sea. The natural environment here remained untouched and the beaches are among the cleanest in Cyprus. In Kato Pyrgos you can explore many monuments and churches. One of the most important places to visit is the Chapel of Virgin Mary, Galoktisti, which dated back to the 13th century.
The place was not very easily reached. It is isolated between the Troodos mountain, the Kokkina and the Green line. However, from October 2010 visitors can reach Pyrgos through Limnitis crossing point. Many travelers visit the area and find accommodation in the Kato Pyrgos villas, hotels or apartments.
A visit to this peaceful beach village in the far north is worth to visit.
